We all can agree that every child has a one of a kind personality. Every Child is born with a purpose that will bring honor and glory to God. Drake Goetz always had a smile. He Loved Christ, his family and friends. He had a natural athletic ability and his teachable spirit made it easy to coach him to strive to be better each time he played. Winning was the goal but …..how well he did “his” part was when he would take the “pat on the back”! The feeling of doing his best.
Whenever I had the opportunity to take Drake to school, I would tell him to “SPARKLE”! He would roll his beautiful blue eyes and say “I will grandma, I love you”.
On Nov. 20, 2017 that sparkle, those hopes and dreams we had for his life were taken from us… Several weeks later Drake’s best friend’s family, Bruce, Dianna and Carter Mertz came to us to ask if they could develop a Drake Goetz Memorial Park on 4 acres of their land where Drake and Carter rode 4 wheelers and go carts.
So now we have taken those hopes and dreams to make a difference in the lives of many, just like Drake did. We still see God using his precious life to Sparkle, just not the way we planned. What we thought would be an opportunity for all of us to put our grief into something positive to create a legacy for Drake where kids could play ball and shoot hoops has grown into a vision for a much-needed park where every child of every ability can participate. Where families can play together and create memories.
